What’s better than a cute baby?
Corney answer….two cute babies.
I just had the opportunity to photograph 3 week old twin girls. These ladies were absolutely adorable and had me rethinking my stance on not having any more children.
This weeks photography tip is on (as you may have guessed) how to photograph babies.
The twins in this weeks pictures are about three weeks old. At three weeks old babies don’t really lift there own heads, they certainly don’t stand and asking them to pose good for a chuckle but a waste of time. They pretty much just lie there. So I’m going to tell you about a very inexpensive piece of equipment that you can buy to help you pose the un-posable. Go to Costco and buy yourself a round dog bed. The dog bed is about the best infant poser I have ever used and the best part…It’s only $20.
You can place your subject in the center of the dog bed and have mom or dad stick their arm under the bed and raise or lower certain parts of the baby. It gives you total control without disturbing the little one. A selling point for me was safety. The baby is only inches off the ground making the dog bed an incredibly safe way to get the picture. As an added bonus Costco sells dog bed with patterns on one side and they constantly update the pattern that they sell. This means that your images will always keep up with the current style. The down side is I now have some extremely pampered pups who get new beds on a regular basis.
Note: this may go without saying but, once a pet has used the bed do not use it to pose babies. Even the cleanest of pets sometimes come up with a flea or two. My rule of thumb is, if my dog lies on it- she owns it.
See you at Costco,
Daniel
