Earlier this month amidst the holiday scramble I was contacted by a model who needed new images for her portfolio. Even though it was crazy busy around the studio I have a really hard time turning down projects so I sat down and began brainstorming ideas. I’ve always been a huge fan of the wet look. Adding water to an image tends to add impact and glamour to any photograph. Don’t believe me? The next time you sell a car online spray down the driveway before you take the image. That extra bit of gleam coming from the pavement underneath is enough to make a Doge Neon look like a Dodge Viper, a Toyota 4 Runner look like a Hummer and a Prius look like a…..well….? Anyway the same applies to making people look fantastic. So I decided to introduce the idea of shooting in the rain and the model loved it. Just one glitch…it was about 20 degrees outside. Not the most comfortable weather for modeling, not to mention taking pictures. My solution came in the form of a rain rig. For those of you not familiar with a rain rig, it’s something used in Hollywood to um….er…make it [...]

Holy workaholic Batman! Last month was busier than….well….It was so busy that I am way too tired to come up with a witty analogy. Last month we saw every kind of customer imaginable. From family portraits and babies to senior portraits and a Halloween food drive. We had our best month ever and man did it come out of nowhere. The cool part of all this is that we are seeing more new clients coming out of Portland and even Washington. I must say that is incredibly flattering to have people choosing to drive all that way just to do a shoot with us. Last month we also saw an increase in the amount of clients who are hiring us to do destination photo shoots. As a photographer there is something very exciting about working in a fresh location and creating stunning images on the fly. We even did a pre wedding consultation with a couple who is getting married at Disneyland. You can bet we will devote an entire blog on that wedding. AS FOR This month, it’s been wall to wall senior portraits. Earlier this month we had a chance to photograph Miss Alexis and I thought I’d [...]

It’s that time of the year again. It’s time introduce one of this year’s senior representatives. Our first senior rep is Miss April from J.H.S. April approached me to be a senior rep instead of the other way around earning major points in my book for being proactive. I am amazed at how goal oriented she is and I have no doubt that we picked the right senior to represent our business. Miss April will be armed very soon with a huge bundle of marketing materials and print samples so if you’re planning your senior portrait session she’s one to visit. Of course you can always call me if you have any questions, but April will have some coupons for some really cool freebies. We took April and her mom out for their first session with us Friday and I started by leaving my camera’s battery at the studio. A totally rookie mistake that I’m sure made for a fantastic first impression. Once the camera had power we were off to the races. April is a natural model and very comfortable in front of the camera. She was able to flow from one pose to the next and took direction [...]

Senior Portraits 2011 We’ve photographed a constant stream of senior portrait sessions over the last two months. The amount of humility and grace we’ve seen has been impressive. The awkwardness (what there was of it) has been undeserved and quickly wiped away. Daniel is here to make you look good. Period. You’re in our studio, or at least, in front of his lens, to express who you are, at this moment. Daniel wants who you really are to come out, not who you think you should be- and not some stuffed shirt. So if that requires scaling a rock wall or Mickey Mouse ears – he doesn’t care. Photographers get asked to do weird stuff all the time. Trust me, you can’t freak him out, and he’s not going to tell the next person in line. (Unless of course, it looks AMAZING and then it’s going up on the studio wall.) If you want your high school senior portraits with your 27 favorite BFFs, it’ll be a little cramped at the photography studio, but we can make it happen. If you want to bring your precious pooch – no big, we photograph pet portraits all the time. Note: Daniel does [...]

This last weekend I had the pleasure of creating senior portraits for Miss Ashley. Who, in addition to being just a laid back person to hang out with, also has fantastic taste in dresses. Little fashion tip for y’all…full length dresses photograph beautifully. There’s a reason that Hollywood’s red carpets see more full length gowns than mini-skirts. Anyway, we had a blast working together. We were joined by a very special guest - Cesar. Cesar was a wayward cat that thought laying on my lens while I shot from the ground was the thing to do. After he figured out that I was not going to let him be a photographer on this shoot, he tried his hand at modeling. Now I don’t want to brag but anyone can pose a person…but posing a cat takes talent! Just look at the way I got him to pop his front leg. I’m just brilliant, what can I say. O.K. so I was just lucky. After saying goodbye to Cesar we continued to shoot for another hour and a half. Halfway through the shoot the weather got cloudy and just cruddy looking. Now I really don’t wish to brag but a wanna-be photographer bags [...]

Jefferson Homecoming 2010
16 years after my high school graduation, I finally get asked to Homecoming. I know what you’re thinking…That’s so sad! No I didn’t get asked personally, but my photography studio provided portrait services at the Jefferson High School. Now that I’ve been to a homecoming dance I’m kicking myself for being “too cool” to attend one when I was in high school. These kids know how to throw a party. Apparently they also know how to lay the smack down on the football field. A 28 to 7 victory had everyone in the right mood for a good time. The night was a total success and we met some great people. We have to thank the Homecoming Court for being such good sports while they waited for everyone to get rounded up for their group picture. We also have to thank Ms. Henslee and her class for creating such a beautiful background and for being the glue that made the night such a success. I would also like to thank my beautiful wife for being such a fantastic assistant and keeping things running smoothly. She also made out with me in the schools hallway… and me telling [...]
